Well, when I first saw the title and the poster, I thought it was an abstract atmospheric film about a girl trying to log out of her life(?).
Then the movie started with a story about a girl wanting to break up with her boyfriend. "Ah... so it's about breaking up..." I was a little disappointed that it was different from what I expected. But as I watched, I slowly realized that I was right about how I expected...?

"I'm thinking of ending things" is a surreal psychological thriller from the United States ( Netflix original movie ) in 2020. The story is about a couple who go to the boyfriend's house to meet his parents. The heroine actually wants to break up at this time, but she doesn't speak out. After arriving at the boyfriend's parent house, more and more strange things happen, the atmosphere is weird, the man's parents suddenly get older, and her childhood items suddenly appear in her boyfriend's room...
I want to know how many viewers given up within the first 20 minutes
To be honest, the film genre (I thought) was not what I expected. The first 20 minutes were just the heroine mumbling. I really wanted to turn it off and not watch it. "Damn, what a rubbish film." But when the weirdness started to happen, its surreal feeling was really attractive. Most of the time, the movie was depressing. At the end, an old man suddenly confessed his true feelings and the style of the film suddenly changed. It staged a series of fantastic and gorgeous stage performances. At the end, the curtain suddenly fell.
I didn't quite understand it when I watched it myself, and it took me a lot of analysis to realize that all the weird stuff was actually describing an old man recalling his miserable life.

The old man was a smart kid in primary school. But he gradually became ordinary as he grew up, and he didn't know what went wrong. He didn't have the courage to approach the girl he liked, knowing that he was nothing special and that no one would like him. After he entered society, he had no social life except for work. His job was to be a night school janitor where he had no interactions with anyone. Over 50 years of meaningless days, strong loneliness, and miserable life made him choose to commit suicide in his car.
This movie can be said to be a psychological portrayal of many single people who have no career achievements and cannot find the meaning of life.
It’s a very immersive movie.
