When talking about cult/non-mainstream movies, the first movie that comes to mind is usually "The Holy Mountain". Its plot, style, etc. are very different from what we usually see in commercial movies. It can be regarded as an entry-level work of cult movies.
(The so-called "non-mainstream" varies according to cultural background. For example, Tokusatsu are one of the mainstream cultures in Japan, but they are actually considered cult films in Europe and the United States.)

Well, this movie is a bit "evil"
"The Holy Mountain" is a 1973 surrealist film from Mexico. Although cult movies are not necessarily "evil", they are just "non-mainstream". But "The Holy Mountain" is really a bit "evil". It is one of the blasphemous films. The content contains a lot of anti-Christian and insulting religious elements. Here is a reminder that if you have a religious background, this movie may not be suitable for you.
The story of "The Holy Mountain" is about a thief on the roadside who was worshipped as a saint because of his similar appearance to Jesus. Later, the thief walked into the tower and met other people, and they searched for the Holy Mountain together to gain eternal life.
This is one of the movies I watched in this "1000 Movies Challenge ". I just thought it was a weird movie, but I didn't like it very much. But as time goes by, this movie has been lingering in my mind. I like the atmosphere and worldview of "The Holy Mountain". It's like completing a religious journey, and there is a feeling of seeing through the universe and returning to the beginning of the world. But if you ask me "what I learned from this movie", I don't know anything, I just feel the atmosphere.
This movie is very impressive in terms of both composition and props. If you have a basic understanding of the Bible, you will find that many plots echo the Bible stories. I highly recommend everyone to watch "The Holy Mountain" and experience its strange worldview.
